Miss Earth 2010: A balance of the first weeks of the Contest

WACKY ARRIVALS: 10 days after the pageant started, there are still delegates arriving. The latest girls to join the group where misses Martinique and Nicaragua. Miss France left and went home; another Miss France is expected to arrive in the following days. There is a miss Macau announced on the website but she has yet to be seen. Contestants from Ghana, Georgia, Paraguay and Ukraine never arrived. Perhaps some new delegates will arrive one day before the final?

EXTREME: Some outlets have reported that the TV production is planning to cut directly from 80 contestants to the top 4, eliminating the semi finalists.

All delegates would appear in swimsuits and evening gowns, and then the four winners would be announced. This has yet to be confirmed. If true, this would affect greatly the delegates’ performance in the GB Grand Slam Ranking.

FAVORITES: Pageant powerhouses India and Venezuela seem to be the ones to beat, while contestants from Vietnam and Nigeria are also favored to earn one of the big crowns. Then there are the beauties from Ecuador, Poland, Puerto Rico and Netherlands who have been constantly featured in interviews and the media. Other delegates getting special notice: Brazil, Italy, Kosovo, Norway, Russia, South Africa, South Sudan, Crimea and Colombia.

WHAT THE: Eyebrows were raised during the election of Best National Costume, won by Miss Japan, Marina Kishira. According to Japanese director Ines Ligron, the gown was designed by herself and Tadashi Shoji in 2004. Some contestants were reported to be disappointed with the election, after dragging 200-lb costumes in 50 boxes and paying about $5,000 in excess wages. Really, who does that?

Meanwhile, the election of Japan as Best National Costume, from this perspective, was innovative and fun.

TOO LONG: After Carousel had narrowed the pageant in the latest years from one month to just 2 weeks, apparently Vietnam organizers asked to have the girls in the country for an entire month.

A month of events, in any pageant, is too much of a burden for the contestants and their directors, who have to put together a whole month of wardrobe, insurance, phone calls, data plans and pocket money. The pageant is still 20 days away and some delegates are visibily tired.

BIAS: Vietnamese media is relying too much on Miss Vietnam, who certainly possesses all the qualities to be crowned; but unlike the coverage of Miss Universe 2008 where all the beauties got their fair share, this time it is all about Miss Vietnam and Friends. Perhaps the media would like to feature more of these 80 accomplished ladies.

GOOD COVERAGE: Putting the bias aside, coverage of the event has been relatively good, showcasing all events since the competition started. However, from an audience standpoint, followers would love to learn more about the girls themselves and the show.

NO LEADERBOARD?: Visitors to Global Beauties have been asking about the leaderboard; however, GB is returning to basics: Days before the contest, Miss Global Beauties Earth will be chosen, something that was done with other pageants years ago. Until then, you will be able to see who are the website’s favorites to conquer the title.

VENEZUELA: The epitomy of a Barbie Doll; Mariangela could easily become the country’s 2nd Miss Earth IF THE PAGEANT WAS TODAY: It would still be a toss-up between INDIA (Nicole Faria) and VENEZUELA (Mariangela Bonnani). Nigeria, Vietnam and possibly Ecuador or Puerto Rico would complete the Top 4 beauties.

FORMAT: However, we are relying on beauty and overall impact; the Miss Earth pageant is known to give a lot of emphasis to the interview with the judges, which is why there are usually surprises among the finalists.

EXPERIENCE: Miss Ecuador (Jennifer Pazmino) competed in Miss International 2008, held at the Venetian Resort in Macau. She was one of the Top 12 finalists.

Miss Cameroon (Estelle Essame) competed in the Miss Supranational 2010 pageant in Plock, Poland. She was unplaced.

Miss Netherlands (Desiree van den Berg) competed in Miss Universe 2010 in Las Vegas, and Miss World 2010 in China, where she was a Semi Finalist.

Miss Australia (Kelly McGuire) competed in the Miss International and Miss TQI pageants.

SASHES: We have noticed that some girls have different sashes than the rest. If looked at closely, the font on the sashes of South Sudan, Puerto Rico and Luxembourg, is different from the rest of the sashes; all of them should be equal the ensure the quality of the contest.

AO DAI BEAUTIES: Congratulations to the Vietnam Committee for the Ao Dai competition event. The Ao Dai is definitely one of the most beautiful, elegant and exquisite attires in the world; the contestants all looks amazing wearing them.

I found it somehow insulting Vietnam and I feel pretty bad for Vietnam Sad

Why insulting, or offensive? Not at all!. At least they are agreeing with me about the fact that Miss Vietnam is 1 of the favorites. They just said that the Vietnamese press is paying way 2 much attention 2 Miss Vietnam and forgetting 2 pay more attention 2 the rest of the contestants.

the ideas are not either insulting or offensive...just the way they said it makes me feel bad but anw..they speaks the truth though...but anw..they should follow my website to see whether or not we are paying too much attention to Miss Vietnam...we are updating a lot of pictures of all delegates, as you can see in the two posts I posted recently, there are pictures of everyone except for Miss Vietnam....but I never see them updating any pictures from my site..I wonder why..

They don't wanna acknowledge your website, cuz they don't want any competition and they don't want 2 advertise your website. BTW, u are doing an awesome job with all the great updates about M E! Smile

Yeah I understand the fact that they don't wanna advertise my site but I have seen them updating pictures from a lot of other Vietnamese website.

I even messaged them and let them know if they want pictures without the logo from my website, I am more than welcome to provide them but they just simply ignored it.
